Summer has arrived with the hummingbirds! This home/area is ideal for Bird Watchers / Ornithologists and would love living here. On April 5th the owner saw: eagles, red shouldered hawks, turkey and black vultures, blue heron, Canadian geese, mocking birds, chickadees, blue birds (nesting in the blue bird box on property), robins, cardinals, house sparrows, starlings, doves, house finch, American gold finch, several types of gulls. On occasion, at about this time of the year, a pair of mallard ducks visit the pond to feed at dawn and dusk. We have also had visiting blue heron in the pond (they eat the fish who don't manage to hide!). Other species observed at various times have been varied swallows, varied hawks, falcons, other raptors, marsh wren, Carolina wren (they nest here, too), red-winged black birds, black birds, grackles, tufted titmouse, blue gray creepers, yellow shafted flicker, red headed and downy woodpeckers, pileated woodpeckers, juncos, cedar wax wings, various migrant species in season, and killdeer. The nesting eagles, less than a 1/4 mile from the house, soar regularly. Birds nest under the deck on a regular basis and in the trees. In later spring, we have a flock of humming birds who nest in our trees laying claim to the 3 feeders. There have been as many as 25 sighted in the air at once.

A sharp bird watcher can sit on the deck or in the sun room and spend an entire day at it. Especially if all the feeders are full and the sun is out! The pond is planted to draw them in. It also draws butterflies, dragon and damsel wings. The are another great thing to observe!

We have even see some escaped captives and incidentals (birds sighted away from any expected typical range).
